About the Lower School
The mission to transform natural curiosity into a desire for knowledge begins the moment a child enters the Lower School. During this time, the foundation for future academic challenges is built. Lessons are designed to give attention to each child's individual development. Experiences are provided to socialize and to make the children aware of each one's gifts and the needs of others.
Pre-Kindergarten
The school experience in Pre-K begins with a structured program of three components: social interaction, creative play, and academic readiness. Students enroll in either a full-day or half-day schedule, depending on their readiness for school.
Kindergarten
The Kindergarten experience enables students to build upon the skills developed in pre-kindergarten classes. Instruction takes place individually and in small groups. While continuing to focus on self-concept, development, and creative expression, the program acquires a strong academic orientation. Reading and mathematics instruction provide a solid background for first grade.
Grades 1 through 4
In grades one through four, Sacred Heart strives to educate the whole child by providing appropriate learning opportunities that enable each child to become an active, competent learner.
Small classes, nurturing environment, and a challenging program enable teachers to provide a strong foundation in the basic academic skills and to emphasize each student's moral, spiritual, physical, and social development. Students are encouraged to ask questions, seek answers, and to learn both from their peers and teachers.
