Modding, Networking and Hosting with Minecraft

    Ages 8 – 16

Minecraft is hugely popular because it’s collaborative, open-ended and moddable. Our program preserves those qualities and adds a large dose of fun! The week begins with learning the game, controls, recipes and a bit about hosting & networking. Next campers are connecting to different worlds hosted on our secure server and experimenting with character skins, mods and custom maps. By day three the kids are building in the Active Learning World that grows over time. Whether adding a room, building a moat or even creating a chessboard the possibilities are nearly limitless. This is a half-day program. Students can add an additional program to make it a full day camp.

Arcade Style – Like Pac Man & Asteroids
    Ages 8 - 16
    Introductory to Intermediate

The Arcade course is a program where the game that is created has action for each level all on one screen similar to Centipede, Asteroids, or Pac Man. The main character (which the children create) can be anything. Other characters (enemies) pursue the main character from off the screen or move about the screen. The character dodges the attacks of the enemies while scoring points for picking up objects and destroying the enemy objects. Options are endless and children create level after level for a full week of fun. This is a half-day program. Students can add an additional program to make it a full day camp.

    About Our Camp Leaders

Little Hearts and Creative & Performing Camps

    Mrs. Lauren Deets

Mrs. Lauren Deets is the Director of Music at CDSSH and a graduate of the Class of 1995. Celebrating the thirteenth year, the Creative Little Hearts and Creative and Performing Arts Camps provide a fun, exciting, and imaginative experience for the co-ed campers. The camp encourages student collaboration and an open environment where all campers can share their ideas, and have a safe, loving environment to step out of their comfort zone, and build their self-confidence through self-expression. The weekly performances reflect all that the campers accomplished during the week.

Standardized Test and College Essay Camps

    Mrs. Eileen Day

Mrs. Eileen Day has been teaching English in a private school setting for over 25 years, and throughout her time in the classroom Mrs. Day has spent a great deal of time preparing her students for the standardized tests. When the new changes came about in the SATs a few years ago, Mrs. Day researched the differences between the new SAT and ACT tests to come up with the best ways to prepare students for both standardized tests. Mrs. Day believes success comes from practice. Her students take small practice tests, go over the answers, and focus on the sections where they may have a weakness. Then students take the test again and notice any improvements. Not only does this method help the student realize where they need to focus their area of practice, it gives them confidence when they walk in to take the test " for real".

As an English teacher, Mrs. Day has reviewed and revised essays for many, many years. She’s read college counselors’ notes on what they look for in an essay, attended workshops and seminars, and brainstormed with students to help them find their voice. This time spent with students can result in discovering a worthwhile topic that turns into an essay they can be proud to submit.

    Maker Camp

    Mrs. Meg Tredinnick

Mrs. Meg Tredinnick is excited to be offering Maker Camp at Sacred Heart this summer. Before becoming a Science teacher at Sacred Heart about 5 years ago, Mrs. Tredinnick worked as an engineer in the microelectronics industry. She always enjoyed working with youth and has spent many hours involved in scouting, her church youth groups, and raising two sons. To keep connected with young minds, Mrs. Tredinnick continues to hold a summer science day for the children of her former employer. Mrs. Tredinnick sponsors her nephew each year at his Science Fair. The daughter of an elementary art teacher, Mrs. Tredinnick loves being creative. Combine this with her technical abilities and a Maker Camp is created. The concept of Make, can be described as anything DIY that allows you to create, explore and share with others. Maker Sheds began as places for people to come and share resources, while collaborating with each other. But not to allow the adults to have all of the fun, Maker Camps are popping up all over the country to challenge younger minds. The camp will provide your child with the freedom and support to problem solve, struggle and succeed, and think critically, while having fun doing it. All tools Mrs. Tredinnick believes are critical for our children today.

A video about a typical day at Maker Camp can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCzuku8rm8M

Please feel free to contact Mrs. Meg Tredinnick with any questions that you may have at meg.tredinnick@cdssh.org
